Growing Geese, from Day 1

We purchased an assortment package from Murray McMurrey Hatchery.

We ordered ten and they always send you an extra. So starting our with eleven and they were all healthy and happy.

We found out quickly that geese like lots of water. They will jump in at an early age and drowned, if you do not provide watering jugs with holes just large enough to get their heads in.

We took gallon milk jugs and cut holes just large enough for the heads and just high enough that we could get quite a bit of water in.

Soon they were big enough to have free run of the property. We did keep them locked up at night. Only to protect them from predators. Once they had all their feathers. We purchased a large kiddy pool and refreshed it everyday with clean water.

Great little lawn mowers. If you can live with the mess, they will keep the grass cut and fertilize it well for next year.
