Freezeout Lake plays host to thousands of migrating birds every year.
Each year at the end of March, birds show up at the lake in great numbers.
Snow geese and trumpeter swans make an 18 hour flight over mountainous terrain from northern California and the southern region of Texas, to north central Montana, and Freezeout is the first stop offering food, rest and water.

You can literally hear the wind beneath their wings as they plummet several hundred feet to the lake below.
From Montana, the snow geese and swans will make their way to the arctic areas of Canada and Alaska.

They will be back through Montana, in October, on their return flight south.
