Autumn Color Along Ashley Creek in Golden Orange

Enjoy the serenity of the water in Ashley Creek and wind in the trees as we walk the trail around Kalispell Montana.
The Great Northern Historical Trail extends 6.5 miles from west of the city of Kalispell, bordering the Smith Lake Waterfowl Production Area to the small town of Kila and follows the right-of-way of the old Great Northern Railroad (later owned by Burlington Northern).

Benches are dotted along the path providing a place to relax in the surrounding solitude or bird watch. Yellow-headed and Red-winged blackbirds, Sandhill cranes and Canada geese are just a few of a great number of species that frequent the area along the trail
